Wat krijg je wanneer geeks en nerds beginnen te rappen over games, computerprocessen en Lord of the Rings?  Nerdcore!  Grappig en tegelijke boeiend, omdat het voor de mensen toch redelijk serieus lijkt te zijn.  Binnekort verschijnen er 2 documentaires over, maar check alvast deze trailer van "Nerdcore for life":

Weezer Rocks

Weezer hebben zojuist een zalige nieuw nummer en nieuwe clip op de wereld losgelaten.  Ik ben altijd al fan geweest van Weezer.  Net door niet cool te proberen te zijn, stralen ze enorm veel coolheid uit.  Het is altijd een beetje een geekband geweest en dat hebben ze nu nogmaals bewezen door hun nieuwste clip op YouTube te releasen.  De clip zit bomvol YouTube referenties: van de Numa Numa kerel tot Brendan Crocker, ze passeren allemaal de revue.  Het nummer vat ook mooi een deel van de geest van veel van de filmpjes op YouTube samen: "trek je gewoon niet teveel aan van wat de anderen denken, je hoeft niets te bewijzen".  Ik weet het, het klinkt enorm cliché, maar op zo'n manier gebracht dat ik het maar al te graag wil aannemen en Rivers Cuomo gewoon een dikke knuffel wil geven.  Go Weezer!

Psalters in Antwerp

I saw the Psalters at the Scheldapen in Antwerp on Thursday.  Wow.  They were simply amazing live. The power and passion that came from that stage was incredible.  They play an ecclectic mix of musical genres and get their inspiration from the music played by the oppressed peoples of this world.  They live and breath what they preach.

They travel meeting people from different cultures and visit the oppressed to live with and learn from them.  They spent the night sleeping in a squat and normally live as nomads in a bus, playing and meeting people wherever they go.  They hand out their cd's and merchandise for free and their songs are rightsfree.  If you ever get a chance to see them: go.  It was the best gig/message/worship/party/inspiration that I've seen or attended in ages, all rolled into one.

The power that was in the air that evening when they played Psalm 27 as their opening song was amazing.  They haven't released this on CD yet, but had the lyrics on a screen and people sang along.  The passion that you can hear in the sentence: "I will not be afraid" still gives me shivers when I hear the song.  People want to be set free.   Just listen to the mp3 that was recorded that night:
